I have seen so many threads on this subreddit of people saying they're interested in playing Silent Hill 2 for the first time but not knowing which platform to play it on. Many people don't have a PC powerful enough, or kept their original PS2 consoles to extract their system's BIOS, to run the game through PS2 emulation via PCSX2 Īnd the remaining folks may have simply not held on to their original PS2/Xbox consoles and old CRT televisions. Silent Hill 2 played through the Xbox 360's backwards emulation is alarmingly buggy with textures going missing, bugged assets, and the most broken version of the flashlight I've seen to date Simply visit the Silent Hill 2 Widescreen Fix Installation Guide page:Īs many dedicated fans know the Silent Hill HD Collection is full of bugs and uses altered (for the worst) art assets Sounds great! How to I get these mod packages? The steps to install the fix packages is nothing more than downloading some files and dropping them in the appropriate folders inside the game's installation directory. That is, allowing people to play a true "HD" version of this game relatively easy with as little bugs as possible. The other reason we're striving to improve the PC version is ease-of-use. Even a decade-old computer should be able to run this version of the game with little issue. The great thing about the PC version-in addition to all the fixes mentioned above-is that it doesn't require a lot of power from your computer to run well. Any other benefits of playing the PC version? But we're hoping to find a talented modder in the future to help us with this. Re-enabling of hardware accelerated 3D audio (surround sound)Įssentially, these mod packages fix just about everything except for the shadows the PC version still has hard-edge shadows and not soft edge ones as the PS2/Xbox versions have.Full controller support (for Xinput-based controllers).Bugged animation fixes (will be released on next WSF update).Environment lighting transition fix (still in development no ETA for now).PS2 quality audio (still in development should be released within the next few months).Stuttering camera fixes (will be released on next WSF update).Widescreen camera clipping fixes (will be released on next WSF update).Along with other fix packages, made by other talented individuals over the years, the PC version of the game now offers: How has the PC version improved? The primary mod package, called the Widescreen Fix (WSF), has been around for years (long before I ever started speaking with its creators) and is continually being updated. (A shame it wasn't added to the OG Xbox BC program or a collection of 2-4 all in good quality).Over the past year + I've been collaborating with very talented modders and programmers to help play test to allow them to add improvements to the PC version of Silent Hill 2. It seems every option has its pros & cons, so i'm curious what other people who have played it in numerous ways feel. Lastly there's indeed original hardware (I still have my OG xbox hooked up), though games can look a bit rough on my TV. So you either get rid of shadows or have them offset your entire playthrough. Then there's emulating through pcsx2, but it seems SH4 even in the newest dev version of that emulator is unable display shadows correctly. There's the option of the PC version but I heard it needs a lot of fixes (Since it was a rough port) and is also missing some scares (and potentially the last boss fight? that might've just been some forum rumor though). The game is relatively cheap compared to the others so getting a hold of a copy isn't an issue, but since I don't have a CRT playing on original hardware seems kind of odd (but not out of the question). However, I can't seem to find a "good" way to play it. I've finished SH2 (Made a whole thread about that) and before I jump into SH3 I wanted to play 4 since it's basically its own thing.
